The Arafura Sea lies to the north of Australia, just west of the Pacific Ocean. Directly to its east is Torres Strait, and its south is bordered by Australia's Gulf of Carpentaria. To the west is the Timor Sea, and bordering the north of the Arafura Sea is the Banda Sea and Papua New Guinea.
