Lowering 4x4 tire pressure what advantage when offroading?

[Edit]

Answer

Better traction because the tire is "flatter" and therefore has a larger footprint. The disadvantage is increased tire wear. Don't forget to air the tires back up when you get back on the pavement. You should only do this when conditions are extreme. It is usually not ncessary. I did get out of a fix one time by doing this. Another trick for better traction on ice and snow is spray your tires with bleach. It makes 'em "stickier". It only last for a little ways, but it might be enough to get you out.
