The main character is the story teller who was never named in the novel.He is a 15 boy well liked and respected by family and friends. He is an average hockey player who is trying to earn his sports letter.
Buff Saunders- a born hockey player,recently moved from Canada,he lives with his dad who is an alcoholic and rough on Buff.He is also becoming an alcoholic.
Art- Best friend of the storyteller, hates Buff and thinks he is a bad influence
Tina- Art's girlfriend becomes freindly with Buff and helps him with the narrator to help him beat drinking
Julie- becomes the storytellers girlfriend, friends with the boys and Tina
