Either the battery has lived its life and need to be replaced or it is not fully charged. Just try to use it completely. Then, shut off for couple of hours. Then, use the camera again to discharge it fully. Last, charge the battery fully and see if that helps. If not, then change the battery. If you're using the EN-L1 battery, they have a history of becoming unusable after a few months of heavy use OR 12-18 months of limited use.
I would go for the Nikon Coolpix- the touchscreen model. It is an easy to use camera that works well forever one.

Fix the ABS so it works. Unhook the battery for 5 minutes.
Try disconnecting the battery for about 5 or 10 minutes the reconnect, I have heard this works.
Try unhooking your battery cables for a few minutes. That usually works for me.
My husband said that you could disconnect your battery for about 10 minutes, and alot of times that works.
Double check that the battery works, then check if the engine works.
