My g3 ibook combo drive only reads cd's and dvd's half way through before freezing up. It dropped once. How do I fix it?

Answer:

Answer

You'll need someone that can fix the hardware. Call Apple technical support. They won't fix it for free under warranty since you dropped it, but let them know that you are willing to pay for it and tell them where you live and they will give you a list of local Apple computer repair stores.
Or, I'm not sure, but you might be able to just replace the whole CD drive. Ask Apple if that is possible.

Time to upgrade

Most likely, replacing a drive on a G3 iBook will cost more than the machine is worth. Check with Apple, or third party solutions like Other World Computing or TechRestore or iResQ to get pricing for a combo drive replacement.
You could try to repair it yourself, but the iBook is a bit of a pain to get inside of, and if you don't know what you're doing, you may end up making matters much worse.
