My starter grinds?

Wrong starter, wrong fly-wheel, Bad starter drive, worn fly-wheel. Starter may need to be shimed.

The starter may require shims to correct that. The ring gear and or the flywheel may be damaged also.

Could be some worn teeth on the ring gear, or the starter drive might be too tight when engaged in the ring gear. Shims can be purchased from most auto parts stores.

You should hope so. The other option is a damaged flywheel which is a much larger project than replacing a starter.

Remove the outer primary cover and inspect for damage to the starter gear or the gear on the clutch basket. Observe the starter operation for improper engagement and replace all damaged and faulty...
