list of typhoon in the Philippines in 2009 from January to December
An average of 20 typhoons enter the Philippines in a year.
On average there are about 25 tropical storms and typhoons which hit the Philippines each year. Statistically Luzon is the region most likely to get hit but you can also experience typhoons in the Visayas and Mindanao regions.
Japan has a lot of natural disasters. One of the main disasters is typhoons. Every summer Japan has at least one typhoon. The Japanese also call typhoon's "Divine Wind" as it saved there country from invasion twice.
The Philippines is prone to typhoons and other natural disasters because it lies astride the typhoon belt, in the active volcanic region known as the "Pacific Ring of Fire," and in the geologically unstable region between the Pacific and Eurasian tectonic plates. It is a country surrounded by moist air, so the typhoon is able to feed on that. The typhoon also needs cold air. Once these are together, the air spins in circles. The typhoon is then formed. All the things that a typhoon needs are provided in and around the Philippines, resulting in several typhoons a year.
According to the report of Evelyn Macairan (Phil. Star) the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) commandant Admiral Wilfred Tamayo said that they are starting preparations early following the announcement of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) that more than 20 storms are expected to hit the country this year.
