check the timing belt (least likely)check spark plugs (could be misfiring)get the catalytic converter checked, as it could be clogged and preventing your car from exhausting properly
you can get full diagnostics run on it at any dealership, then taken elsewhere for the actual work, as the Kia dealership I've had my car serviced at charged me $115 to spray brake fluid cleaner on my rear brakes.
Your check engine light will be on and you will feel bucking or jerking while you are accelerating. You will also have an idle surging, sudden stalling of the engine, and a sudden surge in speed while driving on the highway.
a bad throttle position sensor will cause: transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cuts off, hesitation on take off, surge while cruising down highway. all or part of these symptoms will indicate a bad sensor. not all the time will check engine light be on!! sometime these symptoms will not set a problem code.
No a bad egr will cause surging at idle or bucking while under light acceleration.
Why is oil light on in 2000 sephia
I have the same problem, and there are a few sensors that do the same thing on vehicles now days. a bad tps sensor will cause: transmission shift issues, bucking, jerking, idle surging, engine cutoff, hesitation on take off, surge while cruising down highway. all of these symptoms do not have to be presant. a problem code does not light up if problem is not severe, even if codes do not come up you can still have a bad sensor. I have a 2000 Malibu 3.1, the tps is on side of throttle body at throttle plate, it is black and round, I believe the elec, connection has 3 wires!! take out 2 screws holding the tps in, pull off of throttle plate arm, when putting back on make sure you use a new o ring. when putting it on make sure that the throttle plate is closed. HOPE THIS HELPS, CARL

Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem
You could have, a check engine light, transmission shift issues, bucking and jerking, idle surging, engine cutting off, hesitation when taking off, surge while cruising down the highway. There are many possible symptoms. You could have any one or any combination of symptoms, or even no symptoms at all except a check engine light.AnswerSee "Related Questions" below for more about the TPS "addtional info" to see if the problem is the tps disconnect the sensor. If you have the same idle your sensor has gone or is going bad.
My 98 sephia is having similar problems. I also have a Check engine light on, so I took it to autozone so they could read it. I was told it was possiby the throttle position sensor and/or the max air flow sensor. Not sure yet, I am looking to both of them right now. Good luck
