The main body of a ship is called the hull. The hull runs from the main deck of the vessel all the way to the keel, which is at the center of the vessel where both sides of the hull join under the water.

The part of the ship that is built above the hull is called the superstructure.

Assuming the question is referring to the general layout (plan), the common elements to anything that is commonly called a 'ship' (which is an extremely broad term) are the hull, deck, and superstructure.

Well this is a vague question. If you want nomenclature, there is an awful lot to that question. This is a VERY basic description of these items in layman's term

Keel-Spine of the ship.

Hull-The out side plating from the keel up to the bulwarks. The part of the vessel that floats.

Main deck- The part of the vessel that is above water and gives foundation of the working deck and the superstructure.

Superstructure- is the "building" that houses living quarters, offices, work spaces, mess deck, galley, bridge and passageways.

Hold-Usually a place to store cargo of some sort.

Foc'sle- Where the anchor windlass and deck gear are located.

Engine Room-Self explanatory

Lazarette-Most often is where steering gear is located, but is also used for storage of deck materials.

Bridge-Where the actual driving of the vessel takes place.
