Maintaining the original design and integrity of your home is important, and for many homes, that starts on the front porch.
If you are looking for a "real" wood option, you can guarantee high maintenance. Using a T&G pine/douglas fir, these days, within 5 years, you'll have peeling paint, cracks, and buckles.
Old growth options are also available, but they are expensive, and an environmentalist's nightmare (since they contribute to deforestation).
You're next option is a synthetic product. PPP (polypropylene) and PPE (polyethylene) products aren't dimensionally stable which means they will expand and contract with temperature change and moisture.
>>Essentially, PVC porch flooring is the best option for a long-lasting, low maintenance T&G flooring (PVC is no longer on the US Green Build "Do Not Use" list due to it's longevity; making it a sustainable option). There are a few different companies out there, and if you're looking for a product you can paint, Aeratis porch flooring comes both paint-ready and colored through.

A horse would not be very comfortable on a porch. Even a miniature horse would prefer a grassy patch to a man made set up. Though it is possible to have a horse stay on a porch it is not the best idea and is not terribly comfortable for the animal.
A tree
ummm....a tape measure maybe?
If it is an open porch, it must pitch outward at 1/4 inch per foot to allow rain to drain off it.
A porch swing is fairly simple to install, but it is extremely important to find strong anchor points with which to mount the swing. If you're not comfortable doing this, it is best to seek the help of a professional.
The best way to add a front porch to your house is to hire a contractor. Builders and electricians are needed to ensure it is done properly. Don't forget to obtain the proper permits before you start the job.
I would assume oak or cedar. Use a coat of Varnish too.
cold drink, swing, book, loved one
"Useless", unless driving into the house was what you really wanted to do.
Usually, if they find a source of food they will come back to check on it again. Best thing is remove the source of food or kill the possum next time it returns.
