The best way to work this out is to think about what they are going to be looking for. This is often evident in the advert or in the person specification. You'll see phrases like

  • communications skills
  • team worker
  • planning and organising

You need to think about where you have evidence of showing these skills. In the link below there is a guide to the most common interview questions and how to answer them. This should help you

In preparing for an interview, many candidates start strong. They select the perfect clothes. They review the job description they have applied for, and prepare answers to the questions they anticipate will be asked.

But one question many don’t anticipate is almost certainly going to be asked, probably at the end of the meeting. When the interviewer asks, “Do you have any questions?” you don’t want to respond negatively. Not having any questions means you have not prepared for the interview, and will reflect poorly. So add “list of questions’ to your job interview preparation checklist.

Reviewing the company’s website and the internet is an excellent way to develop questions, but be sure those questions are not easily answered from the website content; that won’t reflect well either.

And asking open-ended questions is always a good idea; you’ll get to spend more time with your interviewer, and his response may spark additional questions.

If you have any questions at all about the job, particularly at a first interview, this is the time to ask!

•Who does this position report to, and what is their background?

•What are the day-to-day duties?

•What is the most difficult component of this job? Why?

Questions about the company’s organization and culture are also excellent.

•How do employees communicate internally, within the same team and cross-functionally?

•Would you describe the organizational structure of the company?

•Can you describe the company’s training and enrichment opportunities?

Finally, don’t be afraid to get personal. The hiring manager will be happy to share answers to questions about her own experience. And odds are the answers to these questions won’t be covered prior to you posing them.

•What do you like about working here?

•Could you share with me a little about the last person who filled this role? Did they leave or were they fired?

•In your opinion, what are the biggest challenges facing the company?

•In your opinion, what are the company’s greatest advantages and assets?

Don’t ask questions about compensation unless the interviewer broaches the subject.

Thoughtful questions will help you stand out as the ideal candidate.
