It varies according to model year, but attached is a very detailed guide brought to you by the Taurus Car Club of America with pictures on every step of accessing the gauge cluster.

*The following is based on a removal of a 1996 Ford Taurus GL Gauge Cluster. The following will differ on other generations of Taurus but will stay the same for the 1996-1999 model years.*

!-------------ATTENTION COLUMN SHIFTERS-----------!

Turn the key to on (not start). Activate the Parking brake, ALL THE WAY. and shift the vehicle into the lowest gear ( Gear 1) and lower the steering wheel ALL the way. to remove the gauge cluster you must do this.

!--------------------------------------------------------------!

Remove the radio cluster (AKA "The Football"). This can be done by purchasing a DIN Removal tool from your local auto parts or Car Audio Professional store.

There will be 4 7MM Bolts Remove them and pull the plastic cover off.

Once the IC (or Instrument Cluster) is accessible remove the outer 4 edges star bolts (a 7MM Socket) (DO NOT REMOVE THE TOP 4 and LOWER 2 EDGE STAR NUTS OR THE PROTECTIVE PLASTIC.) Below the protective plastic is the Gear Indicator attachment nuts, you must remove this to access the gauge cluster. It uses 2 Hex nuts. to hold it on. once removed the gauge cluster should be able to move forward where 2 connectors should become visible, one white and one black. Remove these and remember where they connect. Now on the back are twist sockets that you can access the bulbs through. The bulbs used are 161, 194, and 37. Add a LL to the 194 for the Longlife upgrade.

Install is reversal of removal.
