Robert Millikan (1909)- Determined unit charge of the electron with his oil drop experiment in 1909. This allowed calculation of the mass of electrons and positively charged atoms

With the combined results of Thomson and Millikan, a value for the electron mass was obtained

J J Thomson determined the specific charge of the electron

But Millikan with his oil drop experiment determined the charge of an electron

So it is easier for us to determine the mass of an electron
