Should copyright or trademark protection prohibit Spam the name of Hormel's canned meat produced since 1937 being used by others especially in such a negative way associating it with unwanted emails?

[Edit]

Answer

It was once an issue (for enforcing Hormel's trademarks) but has never been ruled a trademark infringement, because there is no likelihood of confusion that Hormel is responsible for generating unsolicited commercial emails.

So, in short: trademark and copyright should NOT prevent anyone from using it in association with OTHER types of goods and services.
