Should drapes match a room's carpeting?

Answer

While color "schemes" of a room should go together, often times contrasting colors are used as well as similar or varying tones of the same color.
There are no rules regarding what you can do with YOUR room, but in general there are a couple guidelines:
1. Do you want your room to look like it was decorated by a clown? Multiple bright colors, such as bright red, blue, green, yellow and white will assure visitors to the room that the decorator didn't bother to put much thought into decoration.
2. Do you want a room that you can "live with" for a while? The bright, COLORFUL decorations tend to become tiring after a relatively short time. Subdued pastels which work together to contrast or compliment tend to make the room more livable.
Ask a decorator or perhaps a painting professional or an expereinced paint supplier to help you pick subdued colors that will work with what you already have.
