Up, do the fact that warm air rises and cold air will fall. So, force the colder air up and it will cool the whole area.

Trinity Alex:

Actually, it depends on a lot of things... like how big is the room, ceiling height, air conditioner cooling power... room sealing...

If the cool air is blown upwards, yes, you will cool the room pretty uniformly - but you will not "feel" the cool the air as fast as if the cool air was blown downwards - (simply because we occupy the space from the floor up, and not from the ceiling down) - scientific explanation: the cold air from the AC reaches the ceiling, now it will cool the very hot air that resides there, only after a considerable amount of time will the ceiling air be cool enough that it will actually drop down [and it will drop down gradually, firstly cooling for example the first feet from the ceiling, then the next, and so on]. Also if you blow the cool air downward, you can leave the hot air that resides towards the ceiling undisturbed because there is no reason to cool the air from the ceiling; if cool air is blown downwards, you will be able to cool a larger area.

I also have a mobile AC unit, that has adjustable vents - after a lot of calculations (but mostly -personal- empirical data) - I have concluded that its best to cool the air at which your head is (this is always true, no matter the ceiling height, room space, room sealing or the air conditioner's cooling power).

* because of my mobile AC's hot air duct, I can't close my window properly - and I can tell you 100% that it's a bad idea to set the vents to blow the air upwards. (and no, I will not cut a hole through the glass, it's not my house).

Where in a room should vents be placed for central air conditioning?

In my opinion where the supply vents are located is not as important as where the return air vents are located. the supply vents should be located towards the outer walls if possible. the return air vents should be located towards the center of the dwelling if possible. every effort should be made to get the return air vents as high as possible on the wall , if not in the ceiling.Remember you are trying to get the warm air back to the a-coil so it can be pumped outside through the refrigeration lines to the condensing unit. if the ductwork is used for heating also you should put some return air vents down low to get the cool air to the furnace. This is my personal opinion and may not be everyones.

On cars ac vents how do you clean the evaporator?

I would remove parts until the evaporator is exposed then blow it out and/or vacuum it out then spray it down with Lysol.

Why does my air conditioning only blow cold when driving down the road not sitting at idle in my 2003 cadillac escalade?

You just need to go and have your A/C system recharged and that should take care of the problem.

Should heating vents be placed near the floor or near the ceiling of the room?

Heating vents should be placed near or on the floor in a room because heat travels up not down.

Why does your heater only blow hot air out the defroster and not out the vents in the dash 1987 Suzuki Samurai?

That is actually how the vehicle was designed. If you look at the selector knob for the vents you'll notice that the arrows pointing down and for the windshield are white and the vents for the dash are blue. Basically, you can defrost and warm your feet and that's it

Why does your 2004 Honda civic blow hot air out the top vents but does not blow any out to the floor?

Chances are that this is a PICNIS situation- Problem In Chair Not In System- make sure you have the button that makes it blow out of both vents... it looks like a little person sitting and has an arrow towards his head and an arrow towards his feet. If the problem still exists then I would consider two things- car is broken, or you're forgetting physics- Hot air rises, cold air falls... maybe the fan system isn't strong enough to force the hot air down to the lower vents along with the top vents... the bottom line is that you shouldn't be doing both... I would just set it so its only trying to blow hot air out of the floor vents- its a much more effecient way to heat the entire car.
