No, for several reasons. By law, a child under the age of 12 cannot be left home with no adult supervision, so this would come under the same law. Also, mall employees are not babysitters, and should not have to contend with unsupervised children of that age, roaming the mall aimlessly. And you will be held responsible for any damage or trouble your unsupervised child causes. And most importantly, children of that age (and even older) are kidnapped from public places that are considered "safe" all the time, never to be seen alive again. It is not worth the risk.
You should at least be 12 or older because of the kidnappers going around and most young kids will pick things up and have a chance of breaking them. But if you have a 18 year old with you and your younger than 12, your okay! Just be careful. If a strange man comes up to you, scream like there's no tomorrow. This happened to me once. It was so scary, and I was with a group of my friends (I'm 12). You can never be too careful, and respect your parent/guardian if they say you cant go alone. They are just trying to keep you from getting hurt or stolen.
you have to be 13 or older

It depends on the rating of the movie. If it is G or PG any age, the twelve year old can go by themself anyway without supervision. If it is rated PG-13 you must be thirteen. If it is rated R you have to be 17. And if it is rated X all persons must be of or older than the age 18.
Your stepson is not your biological son. He is, however, your husbands. He has the right not to let his under aged child go on vacation without him. He probably feels that his son is either to young or immature to be responsible without his fathers supervision.
Cabin in the Woods is rated R for graphic violence.
