Yes, and no.

There are many different ways to "fear" God. One can fear a boss, for example, not so much in the sense that his presence will paralyze you with terror, but rather through a respect of his position over you, knowing that he can grant you a promotion or a dismissal.

Those who are secure in a relationship with God need not be in terror of Him, but they should respect His authority, and fear disappointing Him out of love. Those who are not secure in such a relationship need fear what He may do when He passes judgment on them.

The above is a very good answer. God is love, but God also has other attributes, such as His hatred of sin and His justice. Adam showed his fear of God after he and Eve disobeyed God. The fear was quickly replaced when God showed the two of them how the relationship could be restored. God always needs to be respected, but we only need to be terror striken when we disobey Him and harm the relationship, but we need to remember that God is always looking to restore that relationship. That is why He sacrificed His Son to die in our place to restore that relationship.

AnswerI think the correct wording here is "respect" of God and to do our best to be a good human being. I am a Christian and never fear God. I try to simply be a better person, know that I'm not 100% perfect and was never meant to be, but I do keep my eyes and ears open, try to help others and live a relatively clean life. Since Atheists does not believe in god, then they have no fear of concept of god.

YESWe SHOULD fear God just as a child fears their parents. It is fear that comes from respect for who they are. We serve a powerful God, who is a God of Love, but also a God of Judgement. It is the lack of fear from most Christians and non-Christians that has made our world what it is today....made up of people doing what they want to whomever they want without any "fear" of consequences for their actions. If there were more people fearing a Holy, Loving God, there would be a whole lot less sin in this world.

Did the hebrews come to believe in a God that was love not fear?

No. God himself, in Israelite belief, is neither love nor fear. The belief in God, and serving Him, should (among other feelings) include love and fear. Each of these emotions can contribute their part to a full relationship. And there are also different levels of both love and fear.See also:What do Jews believe God is like?
