This sounds like a sign of infection, or at least tissue damage. You should see your dentist again, or your doctor if you would have to wait more than a day for an appointment. This is something that should probably be treated with antibiotics. At worst, there would be a simple procedure to drain any fluid or remove any damaged tissue. Either way, it should be looked at very soon, before it spreads. Bone infections are very dangerous and very hard to treat. And since your teeth connect directly to bone, an infected area there could easily spread to bone. And not necessarily the jaw. The bacteria will find a weak spot. If may start in the mouth but end up in the leg. See your dentist or family doctor.
