Should you be concerned if your turtle has not eaten for days? |
[Edit] |
I would be concerned. If he has been eating fine and then all of a sudden stopped. Turtles like all reptiles need the proper lighting and diet to ensure they get the proper nutrition. Trust me I have learned all this the hard way. The need proper UV lighting and they need a form of calcium. My vet told me it takes a long time for a reptile to show signs that there is anything wrong and just as well a long time to heal. You can find out by having an exray done to see if his/her bones are lacking calcium. Or ask your vet for some calcium. Both my iguanas and my blue tongue skink take liquid calcium.
Answer
No, do not be concerned. My turtle did not eat for a week after I got her. Also, many turtles and tortoises can live for weeks or even months without eating. If you are worried, you may want to make sure you are feeding it the right foods and that the pieces are small enough for the turtle to handle. Most important is to make sure that it is drinking enough liquid.
Answer
Well, I would call the local vet and they can probably connect you to a reptile specialist. If your turtle's eyes have been crusted shut, they will not eat, and they sometimes blow bubbles (not underwater) out their nose then I would definitly contact the vet. Also if the shell is softening or if you can open his/her mouth open easily your turtle could be in danger.
