Yes. Vaccination for HPV can reduce the risk of HPV (Human papiloma virus) infection, genital warts, and Cervical cancer in women and penile and rectal cancer in men. The HPV vaccine Gardasil was first recommended for use in women, but it is not recommended for use in males and females to further reduce the incidence HPV, genital warts, cervical cancer, penile cancer, and rectal cancer. Ideally, the vaccine should be given to girls and boys before adolescence, usually between ages 9 and 13, because the vaccine must be given before HPV exposure. Just as boys and girls are routinely immunized for measles, mumps, rubella, polio, tetanus, hepatitus A and B, diphtheria, pertussis, meningitis, and chicken pox, they should also be routinely vaccinated for HPV, which protects them from HPV infection, genital warts, and cervical, penile, and rectal cancers caused by HPV.

Is hpv vaccine recommended for women who already contracted hpv?

YES, it is highly recommended that all women get vaccinated against HPV. Even if you have already contracted one strain of HPV there are still other types that could affect your health. Getting vaccinated will not make the current strain go away faster or prevent you from getting that type again, but it is still recommended.

Since the HPV vaccine is approved for women aged 9-26 does that mean you have to get it before your 26th birthday or before your 27th birthday?

Neither, actually. The 26 year age recommendation is because that is the top of the age range it was tested for. The best thing is to be vaccinated before you are sexually active, and most people who are going to be active have begun by age 26. However, since there are many strains of HPV, it is recommend to be vaccinated even if you have become sexually active, and even if you have an HPV infection. The vaccination might provide some resistance to infection by another strain than the one you already have.
