There's no harm in doing so. Good gifts for boys include "manly" items - deodorant, aftershave, cologne - as well as jewellery and even candy/chocolates.

The maturity of the guy governs how he will react and what he will do next. Some boys will be embarrassed and won't know how to react in a "grown-up" way (not knowing that embarrassment is something even adults deal with). Others will be flattered and react more maturely.

If in doubt, remember that the original tradition of St Valentine's Day was for gifts and cards to be given anonymously. Give an anonymous gift, see how he reacts and then have a mutual friend "tip him off" as to who sent it!
