Should you continue your birth control pill or patch or ring normally if you took the morning after pill?

Answer:
Yes, you can.
  • Take your regular birth control pill as scheduled. Take the morning after pill as soon as possible after the accident. If you have a two-pill pack of morning after pills, you can take the 2nd pill at the same time or as late as 24 hours later with no change in effectiveness.
  • If you took emergency contraception because of missed pills, also remember to use a back up method, like condoms or abstinence from vaginal sex, until you've taken an active pill for seven consecutive days.
  • Take a pregnancy test no sooner than 10 days after the accident to make sure it worked.
