Every year, the power should be turned off to the heat pump and the front screen should be removed. Typically, this is just the removal of several screws. Once the front filter is removed, use an outdoor vacuum to thoroughly clean leaves, pine needles, grass clippings and other outdoor debris from the screen. Then vacuum around the heat pump's fan blades. Finally, reaffix the front screen. This cleaning will allow the pump to work more efficiently.
