Some sources say Jesus was born was in March and the Bible says He was born October so what is the true significance of December 25th?

THOELOGICAL POSIT: Jesus (from the tribe of David), and his follwers, all but Saul of Tarsus(Paul) were by birth Jewish-Were they not. History lets us know that the only Recognized messia is Jesus of Nazaruth, but it also lets us know that he was nither the first nor the last to be thought the possible fullfillment of the Jewish prophecy of the "messia". It was not until a pagan roman emporer convined a counsel of bishops that they decided Jesus wasn't man but god. Before their minds were made up for them. The general opinion was left up to each individual and,or their local church, but not after. Every hard liner Christian or Jewish will disagree. However the fact is Christians are those who believe and worship along the lines that a Jewish Man/demi god/son of god- what ever you will, fullfilled a Jewish prophecy, And Jewish persons basically believe that prophecy has never been, or will be fullfilled at some point in the unditerminate future.

Interestingly you can not find the birthdays of any servant of god in The Bible. A Coincidence? No. Up to this present day, birthdays are intrinsically linked with Astrolgy/worship of the sun moon and stars. Honoring the birth of the sun is a pagan idea. Tagging Jesus' name to such a festival is an insult to him. True Christians do not Celebrate the Birth of Christ at any time of the year. The reason for rejecting the Jewish nation as his worshipers is that they mixed worship of god with false pagan worship and thought this would not offend him. The same is going on today, sadly.

When Jesus said, "Do this in memory of me." He was talking about a Supper that was commemorated by the Jews to remember the passover. He now wanted his followers to use this once a year occasion to now celebrate his death and its significance. The Jewish day starts at sundown; Jesus therefore died on that day before the sun set again. True Christians celebrate this once-a-year occasion on that date, Nisan 15th, which falls on the first full moon of the spring equinox

The Bible does not reveal the exact day of Jesus� birth. �"I thought Jesus was born on December 25!"� some may exclaim. This is not possible because he died in the spring of 33�C.E. at 33 1/2 years of age.

I agree with the answer above on most counts up to the point of referring to the apostate church. The Church strategically selected feasts and placed them right on top of pagan holidays to help spread the faith. It is natural. If your culture and heritage is centered around S-U-N worship, and your high holy day is in December, then what better way to teach the truth to a pagan people than by telling them we worship the S-O-N and use what naturally occurs in the culture to teach of the birth of Jesus. It is so natural...The Light of the world conquering the prince of Darkness! Not just physical darkness as the pagan's celebrate but spiritual darkness as well.

Many, many of the church holidays lie on top of pagan holidays for similar reasons. As St. Paul says, "I am all things to all people." He is model of meeting people where they are in their life, taking what they know and turning it around to true worship.

There is nothing apostate about it and the actual date is insignificant. (Actually I always thought it was late summer.)

I agree that early Christians scheduled their holy days to coincide with pagan celebrations, but the S-U-N / S-O-N reasoning only works if you are converting modern English-speaking pagans. In modern Welsh, for example, which is more akin to what the Yule-celebrating pagans were speaking than English was, "Son" can be ''ab'' or ''mab,'' while the word for "Sun" is ''hual''. In Latin--the language of the Church at the time--"Son" could be ''natus'', ''prognatus'', or other terms, depending upon context, but there was no "son"; the word "Sun" was ''sol''.

This isn't to say that the choice of Yule (Dec. 25th) for Christmas wasn't somehow appropriate, as both celebrations involved the birth/rebirth of a godly figure. But SON/SUN is a modern invention, and had nothing to do with it.

With all comments on December 25th in mind, it still has been proven to be a false date of Jesus' birth. It is not feasible that Joseph would allow his wife who was "with child" to stay out in a manger in freezing temperatures. December gets really cold in Israel today as it did 2000 + years ago.

Even though Christmas is traditional, and I celebrate it traditionally, at that time I appreciate the birth of the knowing quality in me. this is the most important element of Christmas.

Christmas was as late as the 1930's celebrated on the 6th or 9th of January. St. Nicholas Day was dec. 25 and was more popular or as the church felt was growing more popular than the birth of Christ, so they did what they do and simply moved the birth of Christ to overlap with St. Nicholas Day on Dec 25.

Seeing that December 25th was originally a pagan festival (ie Saturnalia), which was then taken and re-named Christmas to celebrate the birth of Christ instead of celebrating festival of Saturnalia, and that traditionally in the Middle East a person's birth date was taken as their conception date instead, this means that Christ would have been born about September 25th, and the significence of this is that God can make anything unholy holy.

NOTE: December 25th was not set aside as an official Pagan celebration. The celebration took place on the Solstice - an measurable astrological event - which occurs around December 21st and often encompasses three days. December 25th was likelychosen as the "Set" date to coincide with the Solstice, St. Nicholas Day and other holidays that the "holy" church wanted to obliterate.
