You have 2 options here.
1. Replace the keyboard. Providing the laptop isn't too far out of date, a replacement keyboard shouldn't be too hard to find. Try calling the manufacturer. I recommend taking it to a professional to do the switch, laptops can be very tricky to work on.
2. Plug in a desktop keyboard. Keep in mind many laptops do not have PS/2 ports (the little round plug about the size of your pinky finger) So you may have to use a USB keyboard. Make sure to check before you buy the wrong keyboard.
In conclusion, if the laptop is still under warranty, this may actually be covered by it. Call your laptops manufacturer to be sure. The worst they can do is say no.
Yes, It is an example of skill.

There is more information needed to properly answer this question. For example... Audi - Must reprogram the ECM (Engine Control Module). The car will start and idle but once you attempt to give it gas, it will immediately shut down. The Controller MUST be REPROGRAMMED and the computer to do so is not readily available Dodge - Car will start and stop immediately, if you give it some gas (Idle @ 2,000) the computer will (LEARN) and will be able to reprogram itself. There are just a few of the examples, more information is needed to properly answer the question but the fact is this..... IF a Older vehicle, it is possibly another problem IF a Newer vehicle, probably computer related
