I own a 1996/took radios out of one to place in another etc
#1 make sure you write down the radio code (or you may have to get it @ VW with your vin number)
#2 vice grips for the battery a small screw driver and maybe a Phillips should due-clean rag-flash light for looking around in the recesses of the radio port and checking the antena hook up after reinstallation if needed
#3 unhook the battery-ground yourself /no static clothes
#4 take the tuning knobs off and place then in a safe place, then gently take the front of the radoi plate off/snaps off and on...if done carelessly can casue the part to vibrate off later when replaced
#5 looking very closely to either side corners of the radio front ther should be inserts/metalic in nature; where you place the small screw drive (a wooden chopstick type form)...placing pressure inward causes the radio to become unlatched (be careful because in two different cars I found the radio attchements different due to the vendor who sodl the radio to the VW dealer in the first place so be patient with those "radio insert clips")
#6 the radio usually slids out but is still being held somewhat by the wiring/be careful not to mix the wiring and again double check the antenna plug-in if need be...the sites will be kind of obivious at this point grounding is also a concideration with the antenna
#7check the fuse in the back of the radio if ther is one just in case as will as the fuse one the fuse box...replace eveything especially the battery lines last...turn on the igition...turn on the radio/recode which is different as far as pressing mode and some other radion function button on the radio
#8 the radio should just start playing et al
good luck
My 2004 vw Passat has Monsoon stereo. It works from time to time and when isn't working, there is a "check" on the stereo display. How do I fix this problem?

YES 1998 - 2005 are built on the b5 Platform. Many parts are interchangable. In this case I sencond the yes.
I can not find them anywhere in America!!!!!!!!!
I'm not sure how to spell it but, Blaupunkt has been with VW through the nineties. I know that.
Your VW Passat stereo will not pick up any radio stations if the antenna has come loose. The retractable antenna may also be stuck in the down position which severely limits its ability to pick up stations.
