Stevie Ray Vaughan died in a helicopter crash August 27th, 1990 following a concert at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, Wisconsin. SRV, who did not arrive there in a helicopter, chose to ride back in a helicopter licensed by Eric Clapton's company to get back to Meigs Field and the Four Seasons Hotel in Chicago sooner. The helicopter took off in heavy fog and was almost immediately snagged by ski lift lines that were used at Alpine Valley for recreation in the winter. The helicopter pancaked and crashed into the hillside without an explosion. No one heard it. It is believed that SRV and all aboard were dead while people were still in the parking lot.
