‘Matilda’ is a poem that teaches us the value of truth. Matilda, who lived with her aunty, had a terrible habit of lying all the time. Her aunt was a very honest person and tried to teach Matilda to be truthful but all her efforts went in vain. One day, as Matilda was bored, she prank called the Fire Brigade and shouted and cried that there was a fire at her house. The Fire Brigade rushed through the towns and started to wash down the house as soon as they reached but there was no fire. Matilda’s aunt had to give them money to send them away and was appalled by Matilda’s lies. As a punishment, she left her home while she went to watch a play at the theatre. The aunt thought it would be wise and would teach her a lesson but little did she know what the future had for them. That night a real fire broke out in their house. Matilda screamed and shouted for help but no one believed her. Everyone called her a liar and went on with their work, only to find out both Matilda and house burned down. The importance of truth and consequence of lying reflected throughout the poem. If only Matilda considered the consequences and outcomes of lying, she would have been well and alive.

The main part starts, when Matilda couldn't find anything to do thus bored, prank called the fire brigade of London and lied about being stuck in the middle of a fire. The fire brigade arrived which caused a lot of consequences for her aunt. Later, when Matilda's house truly burned, the people did not believe her and assumed she was lying. Matilda was stuck in the fire therefore helplessly died.

The lesson imparted from this poem is that 'telling lies could bring dreadful days as people will not believe you as time sways'.
