Normal sadness and feeling despondent is a way how to spot depression. When looking for signs you want to see if the person life function is dispaired. example they no longer engage in different activities. Some of these symptoms are:

Anhedonia (loss of interest in activities that use to be enjoyable)

Hypersonia ( sleeping alot)

Insomnia ( lack of sleep)

Weight loss,

Poor concentration and difficulty making decission

Thinking about death or suicde.

There are a number of signs which are typically present in the face of depression. These include (but are not limited to): lack of appetite, difficulty sleeping, and sudden weight loss or weight gain.
A.Increasing problems with school or familyB.Irritability and restlessnessC.Wanting to be alone most of the timeD.All of the above

You often loose interests in doing things. Feeling hopeless and helpless. Finding it difficult to make decisions. Continuous low mood and Sadness. Feeling tearful.
There are seven (7) signs of depression.

1) severe sadness

2) anhedonia which is the lack of interest in activities that you once enjoyed. Everything now seems lack luster.

3) Psychomotor retardation which is where your motor skills are completely off.

4) lack of concentration and indecisiveness

5) sleep disturbances whether it be insomnia(cant sleep) or hypersomnia(all you do is sleep).

6) Eating disturbances whether it be eating a lot or not eating at all.

7) Suicide or thoughts of suicide

*Note that 5 out of 7 of these signs must be present for two consecutive weeks or more and must be present throughoutout most of the day for a diagnosis.

Symptoms include withdrawal from normal acitivities, irritibility or sudden anger, a feeling of hopelessness that last for two weeks or more, wanting to sleep more than usual and a isolation from friends and family. If you are abusing alcohol or drugs, discontinue their use and see if your symptoms improve within thirty days. Schedule a physical with a doctor, as depression can be caused by many physical disorders, including Diabetes, thyroid imbalance and vitamin deficiencies.
