Remington Owners,
Remington Year of Manufacture Codes maybe found on the barrel of your Remington rifle [or shotgun] on the left side, just forward of the receiver; the first letter of the Code is the month of manufacture, followed by one or two letters which are the year of manufacture. For shotguns with removeable barrels, the code will be valid for the manufacture of the barrel; maybe for the receiver, as barrels do get switched around.
According to the "Blue Book of Gun Values", the coding continues as follows:

* the years 1943 though 1953 had double letters: ie, MM = 1943
As maybe seen, the year code letters duplicate; some knowledge of when the model was introduced should resolve the actual year of manufacture.

Remington firearms are dated from a letter code stamped on the LEFT side of the barrel, just forward of the receiver. The code will consist of 2 or 3 letters. Find the letters, go to the Remington Collectors website, and you can determine the month and year that the barrel was made. Barrels are rarely changed on rifles, and that is likely to be the date your rifle was made. Yo lo siento, pero me habla Espanol muy malo, y despacio.
$50.00 to $250.00 depending on condition and exact model and originality
There are no serial numbers on the model 510s. serial numbers weren't required until 1968 the model 510 was last produced in 1962. There is however a date code on the left side of the barrel just forward of the receiver.
According to all of the Remington date code decoders I have found, your rifle was manufactured in Feb 1946. See http://rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9555 for reference to the chart. Hope this helps!
The value of an old firearm depends almost entirely on condition and desirability. In the case of the Remington 510 it is a very desirable 22 cal., rifle. The 510 is light, short and very accurate. It may be one of, if not, the finest training rifle ever made for young shooter/students. When the bolt is thrown on a 510 the safety automatically goes to the safe position, unlike the other Remington 500 series bolt-action rifles. A 100% original 510 in excellent condition, with a good bore and no external rust or pits will bring $175.00 to $225.00. As the condition worsens, the price goes down accordingly. I have bought "dogs", just for parts for as little as $50. Ed
The Targetmaster is the Model 510, it may have 1922 patent dates on it but it was made from 1939-1962 and they made over a 1/2 million of them in five variations.
