The main function of the alveoli is for exchange of gases. The alveoli remove the carbon dioxide from the blood in the capillaries and exchange it with oxygen to be taken to other parts of the body. The carbon dioxide is taken out of the body when we exhale.

who ever wrote that is stupid. the real answer is:

the alveoli are small air sacs that are coated with capillaries which diffuse the oxygen and send it to the blood that goes to your heart.

Blood capillaries allow for the rapid exchange of carbon dioxide and oxygen to occur. Carbon dioxide diffuses from the erythrocytes (red blood cells), through the capillary walls, into the alveoli, and is exhaled through the mouth and nose.

It is not exactly water in the outside of the alveoli, it is an oily, washing up liquid type substance called surfactant. What it does is reduces the surface tension on the alveoli, making it easier for us to breathe in.

How do the structures of the alveoli and capillaries support the function of gas exchange?

Alveoli are found within the lungs. The alveoli act as a specialised gaseous exchange surface in mammals. Another function of alveoli is the production of surfactant.

What is a function of the alveoli in the lungs?

gas exchanging

Why are the alveoli and bronchi separated in the lungs?

The bronchi are the tubes that actually carry the air to the lungs, they have a different function than the alveoli which function in the process for gas exchange.

What is the function of type 2 alveoli walls?

Type 2 alveoli cells secrete surfactant, which helps to reduce surface tension in the alveoli. This allows for easier expansion of the alveoli during inhalation and prevents them from collapsing during exhalation, promoting efficient gas exchange.

How does partial pressure affect the movement of oxygen from the alveoli to the blood?

Partial pressure affects the movement of oxygen from the alveoli to the blood because it is the main driving force for oxygen movement in the lungs.Oxygen passes from the air to the fluid within the alveoli, into the cell of the alveoli.
