The Vandals, Sueves and Alans crossed the frozen river Rhine in 406 and invaded Gaul. The Alans were not Germanic. They were Iranian speakers.

The situation with the Burgundians is less clear. It seems likely that some of them were part of the invasion of 406. However, the Burgundian king Gundahar settled his people across the Rhine in 411/12 after he had Jovinus, proclaimed as a puppet emperor in Gaul. They were granted land in the Worms, Spyers-Strasbourg area as allies.

The Alemanni took advantage of the invasions to take over Switzerland and Alsace (in north-eastern France).

The Alemanni, another Germanic people, took advantage of this to take over Switzerland and Alsace, in northeaster France. The Burgundians, also a Germanic people, settled in an area which is now in Germany west of the river Rhine (Rhineland-Palatinate). The exact date when this occurred is not known. It is known that they were there from 411. In 443 the Romans resettled them in Sapaudia which is thought to correspond to present day Savoy, in eastern France.

What did Clovis do to the Western Roman Empire after its fall?

The Franks had already been allowed to settle in Holland south of the river Rhine and Belgium by the Romans. They expanded into northern Gaul during the invasions by other Germanic peoples. Clovis did not do anything the the Western Roman Empire. When he conquered the Domain of Soissons, a Gallo-Roman rump state in central Gaul, the Roman Empire was already dead letter. The Burgundians, Alemanni, Visigoths, Vandals, Sueves and Alans had already taken over most of the lands of the empire. Clovis'other conquests were at the expense of other Germanic peoples, not the Romans: the Alemanni, and the Visigoths.
