Advantages : Creates a state of euphoria; easiness; contentment. Also shown to widen your span of deduction and creativity. It's not lethal, besides an obvious minimal damage to your lungs, as it is plant matter being inhaled in gas form (not counting in the fact of burnt paper in a rolled joint, although multiple other uses are available). It's shown to help with the effects of HIV/Aids and Cancer (is well-known for the coping of chemotherapy effects); as well as a large amount of other diseases/illnesses. While tobacco and alcohol easily increases anger;rage;mindlessness (alcohol) and lung cancer; emphysema; byssinosis(brown lung syndrome) (tobacco) - all marijuana does to you is that it makes you feel happy and gives you a need to eat a bag of chips. Marijuana is also a non-addictive drug, although people have trouble with tobacco addiction. One more thing: There are no deaths due to the inhaling of marijuana.

Deaths per year from:

Tobacco=340,000-395,000

Alcohol (not including accidents)=125,000+

Drug overdose (prescription) =14,000-27,000

Drug overdose (illegal) =3,800-5,200

Marijuana =0

Disadvantages : Besides the obvious red-eye and munchies; temporary memory loss. The main disadvantage is that it's illegal.

Pros: (1) Government can tax it; (2) Official Legal Suppliers will make a profit from it - some people may create businesses selling not just marijuana and all the other equipment that goes with it; (3) Legalisation should reduce the number of people in jail for possession offences; (4) Some people will be very happy; (5) Reduction in crime related to the drug.

Cons: (1) Long term health concerns; (2) Widespread availability will probably mean larger consumption which will have wider impacts on hospital admissions, car accidents, deaths and related crime - violence etc; (3) People may be then tempted to try other drugs and wider addiction's; (4) Wider availability could mean that people that wouldn't or shouldn't have access now gain access to it; (5) The view in any country that legalises it may not be shared by other countries - you could be arrested when you get off the plane in other countries.

Keeping cannabis illegal is repeating what happened during the 1920's & 1930's with the prohibition of alcohol.

Making alcohol illegal to manufacture and sell created the underground alcohol trade beneath cities. Sparked massive gangs, sky rocketed alcohol poisoning, bathtub moonshine, and gave birth to the famous Al Capone... all because they made alcohol illegal.

The same is being applied to cannabis, it's creating more problems than it's solving. The war on drugs is an utter failure, even Obama admitted this with those same exact words. 60% of the Drug Cartel's income is directly from selling ILLEGAL cannabis. Make it illegal, you then cut the legs off of their drug empire, they'll still crawl... but they won't get far. Drug dealers would no longer sell it, because it would be sold in stores.

Cons? There are no cons, people would become happier. In fact the alcohol companies are afraid of Prop 19 in California, they do not want pot to be legal because it will effect their sales.

The pros on the "War on Drugs" is that the government makes drugs so expensive that people ,who aren't addicted get , won't pay the money to get drugs. So that way they can't try them to get addicted.

Advantages to legalizing marijuana include having more control over what is sold and the quality. Disadvantages include the fact that once something is no longer illegal, more people may begin using it. Having more impaired people walking around and potentially driving around is a danger.

benefits: fewer people in jail for victimless crimes (America jails a higher percentage of their population than any other country in the world, our jails are overcrowded and we spend billions of dollars a year taking care of inmates for people who should be allowed to live a normal life), job creation (legalization would provide the need for growers, transporters, vendors, people to make and sell paraphernalia, and countless other jobs), a boost to the economy (legalization would create an entire new industry in the American economy, creating lots of capital and providing jobs which introduces new capital into the system), more tax revenue for the federal government (if it becomes legal, the gov't WILL tax it, which is not a big deal for the consumer since prices will drop considerably if it becomes legal), wasting less money on the war on drugs (the war on drugs has been highly ineffective in the past and requires lots of federal funding), widespread use of marijuana medicinally (marijuana can be used to treat chronic pain, anxiety, low appetite, it is a bronchial dilator which can treat Asthma, some studies have shown that THC reduces the size of cancerous tumors, etc), allows citizens the liberty to use a recreational drug that is far less harmful and intoxicating than alcohol and less addictive than caffeine. I along with everyone (literally 100%) of the people I know who consumes cannabis can drive a car perfectly normally under its effects. cannabis could be regulated by the FDA to ensure safety for consumers, consumers would no longer have to buy from drug dealers which can sometimes lead to dangerous or negative situations. also, marijuana is extremely easy to grow and will grow in essentially any arable land in our country (its called "weed" for a reason, its that easy to grow), this could create agricultural jobs in areas where other plants do not grow as well. legalization of marijuana would allow the government to focus on the punishment and/or rehabilitation (preferably just rehabilitation, since jail time has proven to do very little for drug users) of drugs that are actually dangerous and harmful to the human body. ahh the list goes on and on...

risks: less federal revenue from marijuana related fees (this money is an extremely negligible amount in the federal budget), a loss of jobs for some DEA employees and others who are employed in the arresting and prosecution of marijuana related criminals (this would be greatly overshadowed by the jobs created by legalization). I can't think of much more beyond this, I'm sure there are more risks, but they are few and far between and do not pose any serious threat.
