More stereotypes

To be a witch you must have some sort of supernatural powers. Like you have to be able to fly and cast spells on people. You also have to be able to conjure potions and mythical creatures. Wearing black is a must and you have to have an ALL black cat. You have to be ugly and have tons of warts on your face. Sometimes being/ looking green is a plus. You have to have graying hair that is all mangy and have missing teeth with long gross finger nails. You also have to laugh evily and talk in a high shrill voice.

Cartoons. Ever since cartoons came out with witches with green skin, pointy hats, flying broomsticks, black cats, long noses, severe skin conditions and gross, black cauldrons, witches have been stereotyped to be exactly that. That's why a lot of people don't believe in witches.

What they call as a steriotypical Witch is the type of Evil, Green Witches you find in fairytales. The only type of Witch known before 1950's.

This term is used in contrast of the Real Witch, a normal human being who is not any specially evil than any other human being, having Magical knowledge and Practices Witchcraft

Why do you tend to stereotype groups to which you do not belong instead of groups you do belong?

We usually stereotype groups to which we do not belong to. For example the poor usually stereotype the rich and the rich usually stereotype the poor. We tend to stereotype groups to which we do not belong instead of groups we do belong to because the more individuals in a group we know personally, the more difficult it is to believe a stereotype about them.
