I have a Ranger Over and Under 12 gauge shotgun with a recoli pad with the same Chicago patent No. 105358. Are there markings you speak of on the recoil pad or on the gun itself?
This is a recoil pad for the butt of a gun.Sold primarily in 1936 37 38 by the Red Head Brand in Chicago IL.
Brand names are protected by trademark law, not patent law.
Go to www.lcsmith.org for a near complete listing by year and serial number....it is probably not pre 1913. There should be a serial number a serial number under the forestock, on the flat of the barrel, and on the water table of the receiver. Good luck.
