There's actually six principles and values in a democracy:

Rule of Law- No one is above the law, including its creators.

Limited Government-
Checks and Balances- Giving each branch the power to check the others.
Separation of powers- Each branch has certain powers but not all of them.
Federalism- The national government and state government have power in a nation.

Equality under law- Everyone is equal in the eyes of the law

Majority rule, Minority rights- Majority wins in a situation but the minority still has their rights protected.

Consent of the Governed- The people have to sign off on all decisions made. Hence voting. Or the people's representative who they vote in.

Lastly, individual rights and freedoms- Everyone has right's.
