Science comes from scienta = to know. e.g. prescience, omniscience, conscience and so on.

The Scientific method requires that:-

1. we can make repeatable measurements, and from these develop a hypothesis explaining them.

2. We can then test this hypothesis using data beyond the range of previous measurements.

3. We may verify the predictions of 2 above. Prove that they are valid. And importantly, show why the results follow from the experiment. That there is a believable logical link.

.

If sociology meets these targets, or rather in those situations where it does meet the targets, then it may be regarded as a science.

[But not being a science dos not deny its usefulness.]

For what extend can sociology be as sociology science?

If your question is what i think it is; to what extent can sociology be seen as a science. Many sociologists would argue that sociology is an extreamly relative science and should be look upon as so. If you look at the work of Emile Durkheim, who was a positivist he argues that sociology is a science, by positivist I mean - prefers to work with stats rather than words - all positivists have this belief. Interpretivists however wouldn't argue so firmly that sociology is a science as they prefer to work with 'words' rather than stats. What to look up; Durkheim's work on suicide. (very influencial in the sociology 'world' as it was the first research that labelled suicide as more than a psychological thing) - J.D Douglas; interpretivist. again, his work on suicide is the best example.
