Rinse your mouth out with mouth wash that does not have alcohol in it. Move the barbell around so it gets inside the hole. Rinse it out every time you drink and drink anything (besides water). Do this for about 4-6 weeks.

Well when i got mine it didn't really hurt when they put the needle through, but it did hurt afterwards. After I got mine I went to sonic and got a Slushy. so if you're smart do that, because it will be hard to eat anything else for a while. Tongue swelled up pretty bad. I tried to eat a little bowl of hamburger helper and it took about an hour. (not counting when I bit the ball in half and swallowed it) they give you a big bad that's about as long as your pinky. i choked every time I talked so I changed it to a regular size. but I wouldn't if I were you. they do that so it has room to swell up. They told me to rinse it out like every hour with Listerine, buuuut... I never did that once and mine turned out just fine. But I took lots of Tylenol to help the pain because it did hurt like a Bitch afterwords. Oh and both of my best friends had theirs done and they would always bite down on the bar, umm well my advise for that would be DON'T TRY IT. Every time I did it started to bleed a crap load. and it hurt really bad.

wash it with listerine after every meal, NEVER take it out though. Chew ice or drink smoothies/icees for the swelling. take ibuprofen for the pain/swelling too. eat more soups/soft things, it hurts alot to eat. everythings over in like two weeks, then you can do whatever you want! OHH: do NOT eat spicy things!

----> Ok, Do NOT wash it with listerine. Listerine contains alcohol which is a NO NO as far as oral piercings are concerned. Try a non-alcoholic rinse, like ACT. You don't have to wash it after EVERY meal--but most major meals, or, more often if you're a smoker or a drinker. Try to stray away from any milk products, as they create a thicker saliva that causes the swelling to go up. Chewing on ice can cause you to accidentally hit the barbell on your teeth-- try gently sucking on ice. Stray from spicy foods, and citrus-- and if you're looking to keep the piercing HEALTHY, I suggest you keep up with your oral care (ex. brushing your teeth 2x a day, rinsing your piercing as suggested above, and avoiding "clicking" the barbell against your teeth.)

How do you know if it hurts before the tongue piercing?

Well the piercing is next to painless, it's the aftercare the following day that may be a bit painful. But if you follow the aftercare instructions you should have no issue.

Why is there a dent in your tongue after you get a tongue ring?

Yes, this is due to the localized swelling from the piercing process. Follow the aftercare guide you were provided with by your piercer and the swelling should go down in a few days.

How do you take care of a tongue piercing?

Well if you had the piercing done you should have received detailed written aftercare instructions, if you are going to get the piercing done, you should get the aftercare instructions in writing. Be sure to ask your piercer before you get the piercing done," do I get written aftercare instructions?". If the answer is no then find another studio to get the piercing done. All piercing studios must provide the client with written aftercare instructions, this is a requirement of all body piercing studios, as required by the local health inspection departments and municipal licensing bodies. If you didn't get instructions for the aftercare of your piercing and you just got it done, go back and ask for the instructions from your piercer. They must provide the aftercare instructions, they are responsible for what they do, and part of that responsibility requires they provide you with the instructions verbally and in writing. Telling you how to take care of the piercing before you get the piercing done does you no real good, each studio has there own method of taking care of the piercings they provide. So providing you with conflicting information is not a good thing, if need be ask them for the instructions before you get the piercing done, then you can compare notes between the studios you are thinking of having provide the piercing service for you.

Does lemon help or harm a tongue piercing?

Well I for one wouldn't be using lemon on any oral piercing let alone a tongue piercing, acetic acid or citric acid will irritate the piercing if it's new. Think about reviewing your written aftercare instructions your professional body piercer provided for you.

You got your tongue pierced about a week ago and your tongue has been a weird texture since why is this and will it go away?

Yeah that's normal and it will ease and disappear as the piercing heals. It's basically the same type of discharge that would occur with any other piercing except the discharge is on your tongue so it looks weird. Fuzzy tongue! It's OK it will go away just stay on your aftercare routine.

No tongue piercing doesn't cause cancer.

Tongue is getting infected from getting it pierced?

Well unless you did the piercing yourself, the chances your tongue is getting infected from it being done by a professional body piercer working in a licensed and inspected shop is slim to nil. The only way a professionally done piercing will get infected is through client abuse or neglect, failure to maintain correct aftercare and personal hygiene is the only means that will cause an infection. So if you ignore your piercing, fail to keep it clean and fail to follow your written aftercare instructions, yes you will wind up with and infection. But you will never wind up with an infection from a professionally performed body piercing.
