The US, for all intents and purposes (although perhaps for only a little while longer) is the last great superpower. As armies go, no other nation gets more bang for its buck.
China has by far the largest standing army, but India is running a close second.
Russia is no slouch even after the fall of the Soviet Union. Their army is as tough as it ever was, has to be considering some of the antiquated equipment they are still using.
Israel has some of the toughest and best trained special forces, but so does Germany, France, Great Britain, Australia, oh and the US.
There are certain other nations whose armies are great at something, but that's another answer.

∙ 12y agoThe U.S army is considered by many to be the "best army" in the world and this is true but they pump all of their money into the forces which means they can't afford far more important things such as a social system, an NHS equivalent or many of the things which make northern Europe the "best" place to live.
