From my experience, it hurts on the side it broke on mostly. The transverse process are the wings that stick out from the vertebre. These are the spots on the spine where muscles and other tissue connect. Standing and sitting still seems to keep the pain at bay. Movement on the other hand causes sharp pains to shoot from the spot down my spine. Laying seems to cause major discomfort. I'm not a doctor, just someone who recent had a transverse process fracture. Hope this helps you out.

Pain managment. I broke my L2-4 transverse processes and that all they did for me. 2yrs later I am still having issues with my back. I've gone for injections with little comfort. Next step is an appointment with the surgeon.
The skeletal system is the anchor and lever system that the muscles pull against to cause locomotion.spinous process and transverse processThe bones are the leavers against which the muscles pull.In reference to the axial skeleton, the spinous process and the transverse process are the leavers against which the muscles pull.Superior articular process

The transverse process functions as the site of attachment for muscles and ligaments of the spine as well as the point of articulation of the ribs
Transverse Process and Spinous Process
The curved area between the spinous process and the transverse process.

If you fall from the roof, you may fracture your skull. My dad went rollerskating and came home with a fracture in his left leg. On a mountainside, granite can fracture into blocks in a process called exfoliation.
