Recently I was somewhat disturbed to see a question arise from an anonymous asker who asked "Where can I go on the internet to get better answers?" In consideration of this I write the following - an open letter to all who chose to read:
As an Answers.com contributor, and especially as a Floating Supervisor, it is my wish - and perhaps my personal quest - to see a greater percentage of high quality answers on the site.
Many young people visit this site to obtain help with school projects and homework. This is not cheating - it is learning, because knowledge is yours to keep forever, no matter where you find it. Also, many young students have already passed their parents' or guardians' levels of knowledge in one or more subjects, and realistically have nowhere else to turn.
It is with this in mind that I ask all contributors to do your very best to give real answers…not just a simple "yes" or "no", but a yes or no with a studied explanation, because a yes or no will get the asker past the exam, but it will teach them nothing. This I especially ask of the younger contributors who might be only a grade or two ahead of the asker and who still have good recollection of the challenges faced by the ones who follow.
For those of us whose school years are a distant memory, we will do well to remember that these young learners will, in a few short years, run this planet. Let's not send them out with half the information.
Lets, instead, make this Answer Site not just the biggest, not just the most visited…let's make this Answer Site the very best on the internet, and therefore, the very best in the world.
Thank you,
AC
