I am currently a Volunteer Firefighter and First Responder. I plan on extending my certifications to an EMT as soon as I graduate High School and making a career out of it. This is why I supervise the 'Firefighters' and 'Fire Prevention and Safety' categories on the site.

Next time you don't think you need to stop for that emergency vehicle with flashing lights and sirens blaring behind you, maybe you should stop. The next time you curse because an emergency scene is ahead holding up traffic, maybe you should think that could have been you in that wreck if you had gotten there just a bit sooner. And remember that those firefighters and EMT's extricating the person from their wrecked vehicles would much rather be stuck in traffic than having to do that. The next time that you get angry when you get pulled over for speeding, think that the police officer has seen things that you couldn't even imagine just because someone thought that speeding wouldn't hurt them, and they were wrong. The next time that you think that any emergency service is a waste of tax money, remember that they could have to respond to your aid at any second, and they wouldn't say it was a waste of tax money for them to respond.

People, it doesn't take much to respect any Emergency Service worker. Remember that 75% of firefighters are volunteer, and hearing someone thank them means a lot.
