I have been a Canadian snowbird since 1992. My wife and I migrate from Northern Ontario to Zephyrhills FL each fall, returning to Canada in the spring. When in Canada, we live on the shore of a lake, in a house I built by myself, in the forest. We generate our own electricity and pump our water out of the lake. The telephone company started providing service just last year, so I can now use the Internet. I have recently written a juvenile adventure novel, but have not found a publisher who thinks my literary skills are as good as I think they are! Other hobbies include fishing, building, and studying nature.

My working career began in military communications during the Korean conflict. I then joined the telephone company when we still had telephones you had to crank to reach the operator. In the late 1970's I became a designer and project manager for fiber optic systems, working in various places including Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, as well as in North America.

While in Florida for six months of the year, I did volunteer work with Grade 5 classes in an elementary school for three days a week for the last nine years. I have had to curtail this activity for health reasons, and have found WikiAnswers to be a wonderful substitute.
