I'm proud to have joined the ranks of the many very fine supervisors here. As a supervisor, I try very hard to be judicious in my actions. However, I am fallible, like most human beings. Also, I will read anything anyone has to say to me, either on my message board here at WikiAnswers, or my email, at "litotes @ wikianswers (dot) com."
Above is a picture of me with my first granddaughter, a couple of years ago. Yes, I know ... she's much better looking than I am.
I'm not really an editor, but chose that profession as the most acceptable of the choices presented, since I spend a considerable amount of time editing questions and answers here. I'm actually kind of in semi-retirement, currently living on an inadequate military pension.
I've been fortunate to have been blessed with four tremendous children. They all make me very proud. My eldest son is an assistant professor at a major university and the next one is a programming engineer. My only daughter is a first-rate graphic designer and has worked on some Web-based advertising campaigns with some major, internationally known clients.

In contrast, I've never really accomplished much. I was accused early on of being a "jack of all trades, and master of none." And that's pretty much how it's been. Struggle with depression and other internal demons has held me back to some extent, and I have, unfortunately, usually cooperated quite nicely with my demons.
Despite them, I've been mostly happy with life, and have done at least a few things that I take pleasure in looking back on. Interestingly, some of my fondest memories are of having given strangers compliments, and watching them then smile.
I've wanted to edit and write all my life, I think. At first, I thought I wanted to be a meteorologist. But I had already started to write stories and poems in high school, and when I discovered that calculus and I could not get along, I became persuaded to swerve toward more literary studies.
Meanwhile, the awful chore of eking out an existence intervened. Before being trained by the US Navy to be a clerk, I had worked in farming and ranching, as an oilfield roustabout, dishwasher and fry cook and a Fuller Brush salesman, among other things. After the Navy, I married and for the most part found myself working in the construction trades.

I finally finished an English degree in 1995. Afterward, for several years, I worked in family counseling, taking additional training for that. The problems and worries that beset our youth these days are almost unimaginable. I have a deep sympathy and empathy for youth, especially teenagers and those who are growing up under the always-undeserved burden of past or continuing abuse.

I have really enjoyed rubbing shoulders with the many fine people I have met here. Some day, I feel, this site will grow up -- I will probably be lagging far behind.
