It's so great to meet you! A little about me......

Hi! I live in the lovely Appalachian Mountain region of Kentucky, otherwise known as The Bluegrass State. The map to my house is over the river and through the wood, over hill, over dale, and on a dusty trail. I love living out in the country and enjoy all the wonders of nature in an area my husband and I call "Bird Paradise."

I'm married to Cleo, and have four wonderful children, two boys and two girls ages 19 to 30 - Brandy, Brandon, Tyson, and Chrissy. I also have six lovely grandchildren, four boys and two girls - Lacie, Cory, Kurtis, Adrian, Tyson Jr, and Kyler and a cool son-in-law, Billy. And now I'm a proud Great-Nanny!

This is my daughter Brandy and her family.

This is my gorgeous great-grandbaby, Jade. Isn't she beautiful? Yeah...I'm braggin'.

I have an 85 pound Doberman named Lady, but we call her Gertie and she answers to both. She's spoiled rotten and thinks I belong to her and she is my master! I also have a miniature Doberman (Min Pin) named Tiny, because she's tiny, about 6 lbs. She thinks I'm hers, too. She believes she's the big one and bosses Gertie around every chance she gets. She's very protective of our home and will bark for days at any strange new item we bring into the house. Tiny is now married to Toby, and they have 4 children, all adopted out to wonderful homes.

R.I.P. Toby

We lost our little Toby on Saturday October 8, 2011. He ran under the wheel of a Mennonite buggy and died in my arms 12 hours later. His loss is greatly felt in our home and we miss him terribly. Our hearts are broken to have to say good-bye to this special little fellow. He will never be forgotten.

And this is Baby Sam. He's one of the uncommon but not rare cockatiels who doesn't have the spots on his cheeks. He's very family-oriented and thinks we are his flock. So when a member of the flock leaves the room, he calls loudly until they return. He has a vocabulary of about 25 words, I think, and I believe that's pretty good for a cockatiel. Here are a few things he says:
Hey, beautiful! --- He's a pretty boy. --- He's a good boy. --- Hey Cleo! --- Hello --- Peek a boo --- Pretty, pretty, pretty --- Sam!!! --- He's a good bird ---

That's all I can think of right now. He knocks on his cage, sounds just like someone knocking on the door, and the dogs go running to the door barking their heads off and Sam joins in with loud twirps. He has a little gold bell he rings when he's mad because we aren't giving him enough attention.

When I have time, I like to cross-stitch, crochet, or embroider. I read a lot and have hundreds of books I won't part with. I also love to cook, try new recipes, and home-can the food we grow in our garden in the summertime.

I enjoy writing, and have won a few awards and have had some of my poetry published. English was my major in college, with Journalism as a minor. Twenty years ago, I scored in the top 1% of the nation in English on the ACT test. I've learned that unused knowledge doesn't disappear, it just sits there waiting patiently to be used again and shines brightly with a little gentle polishing. My work with WikiAnswers has brought my English skills to the forefront and I'm grateful for the chance to put them to good use!

I'm coordinator of the Answers.com Community Outreach program and enjoy helping the WikiGuides in promoting a friendly community environment. We greet new contributors, deliver special occasion greetings, recommend our best contributors to receive special designations, and spread general good-will around the WikiAnswers community.

Below is a list of the things we look for in potential new members:

1. Must have at least 100 qualifying contributions on Answers.com, and at least 50% of your total contributions must include asking and answering questions, or editing questions and answers (correcting spelling and grammar, capitalization, or re-categorizing).

2. Must have a working email address.

3. Must have no prior blocking or warnings. These will be considered in determining his/her qualifications for prospective volunteer membership. Any past combative or disrespectful behavior towards fellow contributors or Supervisors will be scrutinized and will result in automatic denial concerning your request to join Community Outreach.

4. Must have been a registered contributor on Answers.com for at least 3 months.

5. Must be 15 years of age or older to participate in the Community Outreach program as a volunteer WikiGuide
.
6. If you are a member in other WikiAnswers programs, the coordinators of those programs will be contacted about your participation and commitment in those programs. What we will be looking at is the overall extent of your activity within those programs. Your participation in the various programs you are in will be based on a scale of 1 - 10, with 10 being the highest and 1 being the least. Community Outreach requires a score of above 5 from each program coordinator, with exceptions for special circumstances.

We don't require a lot in Community Outreach; in fact we require only that you perform and post on the forum at least 10 (ten) community actions per month, as we realize your participation is voluntary. But, those who have joined other programs and have not demonstrated any interest in participating in program activities will probably not be considered as eligible for Community Outreach. We are a fast-growing program and spending time and resources on non-interested inactive members takes time away from the active and committed WikiGuides.

7. Must complete the Community Outreach Survey before enrollment. Survey link will be emailed to you as the final step in determining eligibility to become a volunteer WikiGuide.
