I tend to potter around the earth science, geophysics and civil engineering categories here on WikiAnswers so you'd be most likely to see my contributions in there... If you have any questions then just send me a message!

Thanks to my mentor, English Rose, for all her help and for putting up with my daft questions!

A little bit about me:
I work in a research role in a Civil Engineering discipline at a British university. In the past I've studied Geology and Geotechnical Engineering and I'm also a Fellow of the Geological Society (at least when I remember to pay my subscriptions...).

A little bit about my hobbies!
I'm interested in digital photography (predominantly of landscapes) and the "digital lightroom" using software such as Adobe's Photoshop and Lightroom 2. I'm currently doing a lot of photography based around the HDR technique. I've thrown in a few examples below. I've still got a lot to learn but I'm enjoying the process...

Tyne and Swing Bridges in Newcastle upon Tyne:

Tyne Bridge - Newcastle upon Tyne:

If you're thinking that the Tyne Bridge looks a lot like the Sydney Harbour Bridge, you'd be right as it was based on the Sydney Harbour Bridge design. Construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge started before the Tyne Bridge, but the smaller Tyne Bridge was finished first. Both these bridges ultimately owe their design to the Hell Gate Bridge in New York which inspired their designer.

When I'm not doing that I can usually be found either in the pub, at the gym (trying to undo the damage done at the pub...) or undertaking any activity that lets me avoid writing up papers based on my PhD thesis
