I finally caught The Jerk and got it recorded. :) It was on IFC. Got Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and Slingblade, too.

Are you not doing community actions in Community Outreach or are you just forgetting to post them on the forum?

How is the tick situation there so far this year? We already have them REALLY bad. They even fall out of trees on you. ugh! We saw one last week we'd never seen before. It was bright, bright red. Beautiful red. I said, "Cleo look at that red bug!" We got to looking and it was red tick! First time I've ever seen one like it. When I go outside for any length of time, I wear rubber boots and spray them with tick spray. They are actually my "snake boots" - I have a bad phobia. Cleo killed a cow snake in our driveway the other day that was as big around in the middle as my wrist. It was HUGE and very heavy! It kinda boosted up my phobia a bit. Makes me shiver all over to think of it!

Thanks I will pull the blossoms off of small tomatos and use the twine. I have not set the plants out set plan on doing that tomorrow. I was wondering have you ever tried setting the plants in the bags like Black Kow suggests. They say lay bag down cut a hole in top of bag on each end and set plants in it.

I purchased ready to set plants. They are betterboy.

Miracle grow is fine for flowers, but a poor addition to a vegetable plant. It is equivalent to giving a two year old a pound of sugar to eat. The child is hyper and full of energy for two hours and bam, falls asleep, exausted. Miracle grow is too high in nitrogen and makes the plant mature too fast and makes the sexual cycle, or polination time shorter. The result: A tall, fast growing plant with little, or no offspring. A slow release fertilizer is recommended for vegetables. I use a product called Black Kow composted cow manure and will swear by it. I spread a layer about 1 inch thick around the seedling about the size of a dinner plate. This is beneficial because it is .5, .5, .5 on the fertilizer scale and you cant over fertilize using it. When the plant reaches its sexual cycle, or has blooms on it, I ann another inch of manure, same size as before, to boost the plants energy to produce. My tomato plants are on average 10-15 feet high every year and I have had as many as 140-160 tomatos on a single plant at a single time. send me for photos, lol. My biggest tomato was 9 and 1/2 inches in diameter and weighed more than 3 pounds.

Yes, on top of the ground & no, it does not matter if it touches the main stem of the plant. However, I put down hay as a mulch to keep the leaves from getting any dirt splashed on them when raining/watering. It has been so long since I have talked tomato with anyone, where did you get this information? I live in Lexington SC so we have identical weather.

My name is Terry and I live in Loris, S.C. I have a question about using Black Kow compost. When I set my tomato plants do I add the compost on top of ground and does it matter if it touches the plant. I just want to make sure before I do this.

Yes, it has been truly a learning experience for me. I don't know if all teachers have this experience, but it is rewarding.

I didn't realize it missed the last 5. Maybe he was still "working". I think I saw 3 listed when I reverted. I have been teaching 30 years. I now have former students who are in their late 30's and are now neighbors, friends, and my doctor. It is an amazing experience to still have these people in my life. I never would have predicted this when I started teaching.
