Specifically, information technology describes the gathering, handling and spreading of numerical, pictorial, textual and vocal information by means of computers and telecommunications. Given the current economic woes, it in fact is difficult for an educational institution to have more than survival levels of resources to devote to information technology instruction. Some disadvantage of using ICT in education is the lack of supervision to learners. Before implementing such skills in education proper brainstorming of the governing bodies of the school should take part, a meeting of some sort to discuss the limitations to what the media of instruction should use. The limitation and selection of the website should be imposed. There should be a blockade to any website that is harmful of not suited to education purpose.

Students may become too reliant on computers and not learn other skills thoroughly enough. So for example, they may use the computer to do some mathematical activities rather than learning and understanding them themselves. They may be able to get a result, but not really know what it means or how it was arrived at. They may also put too much faith in computers, resulting in them not checking what the computer has done to find any errors.

Students may not fully engage in research and experimentation activities, but use search engines for resources. They miss out on a lot of information and interactions by doing. Manual research, like going into libraries, and talking directly to people is often better and helps them gain a better understanding of the information they are getting.
