Was Abraham Lincoln an African American? |
[Improve]
The term African American didn't exist during Lincoln's time. However, according to the one drop and/or 10% rule, which did exist at that time, he was Black. It's been documented that his mother was of Ethiopian decent. So, if Obama can be classified as Black, then Abraham Lincoln was Black as well. Answer
There is an article that suggests so by Joel Reamer.

However, this is the only information on the topic on the web; It is concievable, but so far the number of sources and the unlikely hood of the circumstances suggests that it is nothing more than a conspiracy theory.
There is no way that in the 1850's they would let a black man be president. They were very racist back then, and it was lincoln who abolished slavery and first suggested social change. He is famous for saying that all men are equal.
Um, that is gibberish. The one drop rule wasn't deemed unconstitutional until 1967. And Lincoln became president in 1861. He was 1/4 Indian (his grandfather was killed in an Indian raid) and 1/16 black. Read a little history. Would a black man have won presidency in the 1800's? No, but he would've if he was passing. By the very definition of America (back then) Abraham Lincoln was very much a black person, colored, or mulatto if you will. =) And, he wasn't really passing all that well. His hair was coarse and he had a deep tan (he was from the midwest, and there were no tanning salons).
And besides, they DNA tested that nice full hair, and it came back that he was very much a black man, by the American definition in 1861 =)
